异类《书是好书,但翻译的不好.》

今天在书店随便翻了一下这本书翻译得很一般.

其中讲Joy Bill的时候(第二章第一节)把"he made up a particulary complicated algorithm on the fly..." 译成了"他开发出一项运算特别复杂的飞行程序"...

其实这里的"on the fly"应该是"即兴"之类的意思. 而且算法和程序也不是一回事啊.

今天拿到书发现翻译的岂止是不好简直差到极点. 只看了前言和第一章第一节完全翻译错误的句子至少就有7个摘录如下:

The death rate from all causes in Roseto in fact was 30 to 35 percent lower than expected.

实际上，在30岁至35岁的罗赛托居民中，各种原因致死的死亡率，也远低于原先的预期。

When Wolf had dieticians ***yze the typical Rosetan's eating habitsthey found that a whopping 41 percent of their calories came from fat.

当沃尔夫从营养学的角度分析罗赛托人的饮食习惯时，发现几乎有41％的食物都属于容易使人发胖的食物。

They picked up on the particularegalitarian ethos of the community which discouraged the wealthy from flaunting their success and helped the unsuccessful obscure their failures.

他们了解到，在这里的社团，人人平等，社团鼓励那些富有的人士，抛开他们成功的虚浮的一面，去帮助那些非成功人士克服生活中的挫折。

They had to appreciate the idea that the values of the world we inhabit and the people we surround ourselves with have a profound effect on who we are.
