The missing piece sat alone

一个被遗失的一角孤单地坐在那里

waiting for someone to come along and take it somewhere.

期待着某个人的出现，能带它走。

Some fit...

有的虽然合适...

but could not roll.

但是它们在一起却不能滚动。

Others could roll but did not fit.

而能滚动的，却又不合适。

One didn't know a thing about fitting.

有的甚至根本不知道什么叫“合适”

And another did't know a thing about anything.

更有甚者，什么都不知道！

One was too delicate.

有的就太娇贵了。

POP!

砰！轻轻一碰就破了！

One put it on a pedestal...

而有的则只是拿它当垫脚石，

and left it there.

用过之后就将它遗弃了。

Some had too many pieces missing.

有的有太多东西欠缺了。

Some had too many piecesperiod.

而有的则同时拥有很多个一角。

It learned to hide from the hungry ones.

它学会躲着那些饥渴的家伙。

More came. Some looked too closely.

有的虽然看起来很近，实际上很远。

Others rolled right by without noticing.

而有的虽然现在在你身边，但他们却可以一声招呼都不打的跟着别人走了。

It tried to make itself more attractive...

于是，它试着让自己变得更吸引人，

It didn't help.

但是，于事无补。

It tried being flashy

它试着将自己打扮得光彩照人，

but that just frightened away the shy ones.

但是这却将一些害羞的家伙给吓跑了。

At last one came along that fit just right.

终于，找到一个合适的了。

But all of a sudden...

但是，突然间...

the missing piece began to grow!

一角开始长大了！

And grow!

不断的长大！

" I didn't know you were going to grow."

" I didn't know it either" said the missing piece.

"我不知道你还会长大."

“我也不知道，”一角说。

" I'm looking for " my missing piece one the won't increase..."

BYE...

“我想，我要找的是一个不会长大的一角”

再见...

SIGH...

轻轻地叹息...

And then one day one came along who looked different.

此后，有一天，一个与众不同的家伙出现了。

" What do you want of me? Nothing. What do you need from me? Who are you?" asked the missing piece.

" I am the Big O" said the Big O.

“你想让我成为你的一部分吗？但是看上去你已经很完美了。你需要我做什么呢？你是谁？”一角问。

“我是大圆满。”大圆满说。

"I think you are the one I have been waiting for" said the missing piece. " May be I am your missing piece."

"But I am not missing a piece" said the Big O. " There is no place you would fit."

"That is too bad" said the missing piece. "I was hoping that perhaps I could roll with you..."

"You cannot roll with me" said the Big O. "but perhaps you can roll by yourself."

“我想你就是我正在等待的那个人。”一角说，“也许，我就是你丢失的一角。”

“但是，我不缺角啊。”大圆满说，“我这没有你可以***来的地方啊。”

“太遗憾了！”一角说，“我还以为能和你一起滚动呢。”

“你不能和我一起滚动。”大圆满说，“但是，也许你可以试着自己滚动呀。”

"By myself? A missing piece cannot roll by itself."

"Have you ever tried" asked the Big O.

“我自己？“一个角是无法自己滚动的呀。”

“你有试过吗？”大圆满问。

"But I have sharp corners" said the missing piece. " I am not shaped for rolling."

"Corners wear off" said the Big O. " and shapes change. Anyhow I must say good-bye. Perhaps we will meet again..."

And away it rolled.

“我的角太尖了，”一角说，“我天生就不是能滚动的形状。”

“那就把角磨平，”大圆满说，“改变自己的形状。随你吧，我要先走了。也许，我们还会再见面的...”

说完，大圆满就走了。

The missing piece waw alone again.

丢失的一角又变成了一个人。

For a long time it just sat there.

一角在那坐了很久很久。

Then... slowly... it lifted itself up on one end...

之后...慢慢地...它用一端把自己支了起来...

...and flopped over. PLOP!

翻了个个儿。

Then lift...pull...flop... it began to move forward...

然后再支起来...拉...再翻...它开始向前移动了...

And soon its edges began to wear off...

lift pull flop lift pull flop..

没多久，它的棱角开始慢慢磨没了...

支...拉...翻...支...拉...翻...支...拉...翻...

and its shape began to change...

它的形状开始改变了...

and then it was bumping instead of flopping...

慢慢地它从翻动变成了颠簸地前进...

and then it was bouncing instead of bumping...

然后又从颠簸地前进，变成弹跳前进了...

and then it was rolling instead of bouncing...

And it didn't know where and it didn't care.

弹跳前进又慢慢的变成了滚动...

就在不知不觉间，

It was rolling!

它已经开始滚动了！
