Last year I wanted chocolates for Valentine's Day and I got...nothing. I'm not waiting to find out what I won't get this year. Instead I'm celebrating my way with some Sweet Reads.
Change of Heart by Sally Mandel is my bedside reading at the moment. A heartbreaker a story about love loss and courage. Sharlie a 26-year-old girl with a born deformed heart went through a heart transplant. All the time she was taken care of and encouraged by her parents -- a male-chauvinistic father and a wax-nosed mother -- and of course her beloved gentleman friend Brian whose passion for his fragile little girl shall eventually touch all and cure the disease...(I guess as I haven't finished the book!)
There're always Cinderella type of love stories in which the ragamuffin ***e laid claim to her glass slipper and Prince Charming adoringly swept her into his arms and waltzed her away. It's a scene that draws longing sighs from those who watch it. Why? Romance! That's what its all about. But is it that romance is love all about? I used to wonder if Cinderella and Prince Charming lived happily ever since? I never know. But I do know that the cause of true love never runs smooth. Living in a material world I no longer believe in fairy tales like this. Couples not so perfect marriages not so easy are more convincing. Convincing? No not really. Others' sufferings make me feel better; their overcome of difficulty if they can manage gives me hope. That's probably why I find story of Change of Heart more impressive and touching.
