well they label it as 魔幻现实主义 as if it precedes 100 years of solitude.

Not really.

It is an odd juxtaposition of planned economy situation biblical references and satanic fairy tales. Even though the story gets very "wild" it just does not feel like a natural product of genius imagination. Rather how this novel comes into being and gets published may be more interesting.

i like the more traditional and depressing style of Dostoevsky much better.
