This book is a contribution to ideas of architecture and the body in the 2nd half of the 20th century.

In Chapters 2 and 3 the author gives an discussion of the emergence of the interest in phenomenology in architecture and of the focus on poststructuralism among some architects and theorists in America.

Chris Hight thinks these two groups were antagonistic to each other but they "operate within the same field of reference to the Vitruvian Figure and the tradition of architectural humanism for which it stands." (p.36)
