Until now I still wonder why a blind man could be such encyclopedic and even thou I roughly finished reading this record collection of Jorge Luis Borges it is still uncanny to answer!

If my memory is right from Peter Feng's essay I first made a clear sense of Borges and then I was so surprised at him for his insight for his knowledge for his marvel. I cannot believe a blind man could be so energetic be so ambitious for knowledge!

This Craft of Verse is the record collection of Borges's lecture in his visit to harvard which belonged to The Charles Eliot Norton Lectures. It was during 1967-1968 that Borges visited Harvard when he was 70-year-old or so. At that time he was totally blind but the lecture was excellrnt. This book is only the collection of records so the style ie spoken nor writing.

This book consists of 6 parts and among them I think the 6th part The creed of poet is the great one of all. As we know Borges is a poet so he must have clear sense of poetry writing. In this chapter he explained his theoroes of poet writing which is very distinguish. He told us that the free verse is the most difficult method to compose a poet because this is an utterly brand new trial to create while I think this is the most easy way de facto.

When I read this book I found how nice Spanish is and with the help of my little knowledge of Spanish I enjoyed this book very much. Compare with English and French Spanish has quite brief rules of prononciation which only has five vowels and withou any dipthlongs so it is easy to learn that. Perhaps somebody will say Spanish hears very hard but with this "hard" tone the rhythm of Spanish is very special as Borges described!

All and all I adore Jorge Luis Borges and adore Spanish!

¡Feliz Año Nuevo!
