Joining HK's stampede of ppl is never a joy. But xmas is xmas no matter how skin-deep this season is for us who comes from an alien culture background it's a season to buy gifts and feel grateful.

Wandering on the insanely packed HK street squeezing my way through those frenzy sales I ended up with NOTHING until finally this book caught my eyes.

"Outliers - the story of success" the name is totally lackluster. basically I didn't taking a liking to those self-helping books which always attempted to cook a formula recipe and create a false illusion for those success hungry ppl.

However i am wrong about this one.

Just a quick flipping it came to me that this is the kind of book i want to buy myself as a xmas gift. Sociology is always something intriguing me. And later to my great surprise this book is the same of author of my previous favorite "Tipping Point".

Navigate through the mass facts and draw a "pattern". That's my rough understanding of sociology. Being driven by the author bits and pieces random things started to fall in place cluster and finally form into some interesting pattern. When you think you understand this you feel like you can not only see it through but also foresee a lot. there is a weird sense of being God himself just dawning.

The author tagged those successors minors as "outliers" as their establishments are just outlying and outshining most of ours. What makes it happen? What are the factors making these people standing out? Is it just personal attributes? or there is something much more profound and deep? When I closed the book I feel that question being satisfactorily answered.

Personal gain from this book? Positioning. If the natural course of positioning is in favor of you or somehow you're savvy enough to understand where your position come from and try to take initiative to reposition yourself you might stand some chances to become something extraordinary.

* the last quarter of the book is a bit sidetracking. overall it's a great book and great food for mind.
